YMY

YMY

Jacquelene Foja, who now goes by the artist name YMY, is a Fashion Design and Merchandising graduate whose creative path evolved from designing garments to exploring the expressive possibilities of fine art. Drawn deeply to painting, she embraced abstraction as her primary mode of expression. In her earlier works, her canvases pulsed with bright, bold colors and visual statements that reflected a youthful exuberance and a desire to be seen. Over time, however, her palette began to shift. Today, her work leans toward muted, earthy tones, ochres, siennas, dusty greens, and softened greys that reflect a quieter, more introspective approach.

What sets YMY apart is her sensitivity to the overlooked. She finds profound beauty in materials and moments that most people would pass by without a second thought: rusted metal, frayed cloth, weathered stones, and forgotten objects. These elements become symbols in her visual language, representing time, memory, and decay. Through textured layers and subtle tonal shifts, her paintings evoke a sense of nostalgia and grounding, as if she is trying to capture the whispers of forgotten places or emotions that linger in the background.

For YMY, art is more than aesthetic; it’s a sanctuary, a way to process and reinterpret the world. Each piece becomes an intimate landscape of texture, color, and memory, where the personal and the universal intertwine. Her work invites viewers to pause, to look closer, and to find meaning in the quiet details the same way she has learned to.
